Week 6: User Scenario

What Is a User Scenario?

A scenario is a narrative about a certain situation. It often includes details like the goals, expectations, motivations, actions and reactions, and can be especially helpful when designing an app for a specific user base.

User scenarios are stories that the previously determined user personas act out. They predict how the intended user base will interact with the app in order to complete a goal. By applying scenarios to the personas, it gives the designer a deeper understanding of what their users will look for when using the app.

Scenarios should outline:

  • Who
  • What
  • When
  • Where
  • Why
  • How of the usage.

It is important to create many user scenarios for different tasks to ensure the app will meet their needs and help them complete certain goals. User scenarios let us understand what your future users will look for when trying to complete tasks on your screen. They also allow you to test your sites structure before it’s fully developed and isolate problems before they become problems.
